Phase 1 Information
Construction for Chennai Metro Phase 1 (45.1 km) started in April 2009, with the first section of the Blue Line (Line-1) between Koyambedu – Alandur opening in June 2015. Further sections opened up one after the other between 2015-2019, with the last section connecting AG-DMS to Washermenpet opening in February 2019.
In December 2015, a 9 km extension of the Blue line toward Wimco Nagar was approved at a cost of Rs. 3770 crore as part of the Phase 1 Extension project. Construction on this extension started in 2016-end and the line is expected to open for commercial operations in Q4 2020.
In 2019, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. appointed Larsen & Toubro to create a feasibility report for extending Chennai Metro's Blue Line from the Airport to Kilambakkam. This proposed 15.3 km extension will have 13 elevated stations along GST Road and its Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be ready by 2020-end.

Line-1 (Blue Line): Chennai Airport – Washermanpet (23.10 km)
